What to Expect from Your Sessions

I have the privilege of meeting incredible people in my therapy room. Interestingly, they often have one thing in common — they don’t *feel* incredible. Many are so focused on what’s “wrong” with them that they overlook all the things that are wonderful about who they are. This constant self-criticism can take a real toll on the nervous system and reinforce the belief that they’re not good enough.
Every client brings their own unique story — their upbringing, beliefs, lifestyle, and current challenges. These experiences can shape both emotional and physical wellbeing. Over time, people often find themselves withdrawing from the things they once enjoyed — hobbies, friends, or even simple daily tasks like going to the hairdresser or popping to the shops.
Taking the First Step
Coming to therapy can feel daunting. For some, it might even feel like a sign of weakness or failure. But the truth is, it’s a remarkable act of strength. In our sessions, you’ll begin to learn tools and techniques that help your wonderful brain thrive.
When you come to my therapy room, you’ll find a calm, welcoming space — comfortable chairs, plenty of plants (perhaps too many, according to my wife!), and a gentle, peaceful atmosphere. You might hear Alfie or Jodi, our two little dogs, in the background — they’ll stay out of the way unless you’d like them to say hello. This is a safe, confidential space for you to simply rest, recharge, and begin the process of rediscovering yourself. And yes, if you twist my arm, I’ll make you a cup of tea.
Your First Session
In our first session together, you’ll begin to learn how your amazing brain works. Many clients find that the moment they start to understand this, the puzzle pieces begin to fit — they can see where small changes can help their brain feel calm and safe.
You’ll also learn some of the “rules of the game” that will give your brain the best chance to thrive. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you like — everything you say is completely confidential, unless there’s a duty of care concern.
Before you leave, I’ll give you a personalised recording to listen to daily. This helps prepare your brain for positive change and creates the ideal environment for growth.
Subsequent Sessions
Each follow-up session builds on your progress and deepens your understanding. Here’s what you can expect:
1. “What’s been good this week?”
I always start with this question. It often catches clients off guard — many are so used to focusing on what’s gone wrong that they forget to notice what’s gone right. This gentle shift helps retrain the brain to focus on positive experiences and fosters a healthier mental environment.
2. A bit of brain revision
We’ll continue exploring how your mind works and how small changes can make a big difference.
3. The CORP Score
We’ll assess how you’re feeling in different areas of your life. This creates a clear benchmark, so you can see your progress and celebrate how far you’ve come.
4. Creating a Mental Map of Change
Together, we’ll visualise the next step in your journey — a creative process that allows you to imagine solutions and experience the benefits of achieving them.
5. Hypnotherapy
We’ll finish with a relaxing hypnotherapy session, helping your brain process everything we’ve discussed and begin taking control of the changes ahead.
A Final Word
It’s completely normal if your brain starts giving you reasons *not* to come — that’s just its natural resistance to change. But remember, when you step into my therapy room, you are safe. More than that — you’re taking a powerful step toward helping your incredible brain regain control and rediscover the joy in life.
Im looking forward to meeting you.
